Canadian natural gas and electricity retailer Just Energy Group Inc. could hire another 50 to 55 employees to staff a new call center in Bingham Farms, over and above the 75 already hired in advance of a ceremonial opening today.

Mississauga, Ontario-based Just Energy (NYSE:JE and TSX:JE) expects to create a total of 130 new jobs within two years at a Midwest Region call center on Telegraph Road, including more than 110 full-time customer service staff and some administration, recruitment and management positions.

The new office takes up more than 10,000 square feet and will handle mainly natural gas-related service calls for the region of Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio.

Ken Hartwick, President-CEO of Just Energy, said the Bingham Farms office selection follows an “extensive” search, and the company was impressed with the business assistance the city and Michigan offered.

“We are pleased to be a more permanent part of the community, and we look forward to making a significant contribution to the economic well-being of the region,” he said in a statement.

Just Energy is an energy retailer that buys and sells natural gas, electricity and some “green energy” products that offer users renewable energy and carbon credits to compete with electric and natural gas utilities, such as DTE Energy Co. in Detroit, under deregulation reforms approved by the Michigan Public Service Commission about 10 years ago.

The four-state Midwest market offers natural gas and green energy products to Just Energy consumers and is one of 19 major markets it serves in North America.
