A project including the Southeast Michigan Community Alliance is getting a more than $2 million award to help promote advanced manufacturing.

Details of the funding as part of the Advanced Manufacturing Jobs and Innovation Accelerator Challenge were announced Tuesday by Democratic Congressman John Conyers on Detroit. The effort involves federal agencies including the U.S. departments of commerce, energy and labor.

The project aims to boost clusters of small- and medium-sized manufacturing as well as promote regional economic development. The Energy Department says the effort also involves the Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center, the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences and the Detroit Regional Chamber Foundation.
